I don’t live in Silicon Valley, so its not easy to get a Google Wave invite. Even the people I know there don’t have one.

So, I’m relegated to begging for an invite. Why do I want one?

Here’s five reasons why I want to play with Google Wave. A tool expected to dramatically change the way people communicate and collaborate. Who knows what the long term impact can be as a social media optimization tool?

1. Access email, IM, blogging, wikis, office docs, business solutions and a ton of other Google applications from one entry point – with everything tied together.
2. Online interactions will change – anything from chat, images, videos, maps can be shared within email, IM and documents. Conversations themselves are called “Waves” – include others by simply dragging them from your contact list, link to other waves or content to create rich conversations.
3. Collaborate in real-time with others. See who makes an update, when they made it and even see their comments about the edits in real-time. You’ll even see the text as its being typed. People who are late to the conversation (and there’s always one) have the ability to “Playback” the conversation and get caught up. Very slick.
4. Conversations  - rather, Waves, will let others know when it has been edited or changed. You can link to a wave – or even better – you can embed a wave within a page, a site or a network.
5. This has tremendous potential as an internal company tool, a client/vendor based tool and may even push the boundaries of customer interaction.
