Here’s a simple tip to help you easily shorten a long URL and track how many times people have clicked your link.
I became a fan of Idek.net
and their URL tool after meeting Adam Covati a couple of months ago at the Raleigh Social Media Breakfast. (Stop by if you’re in town, btw.) Adam did a great job creating the IDEK.net URL shortener.
Add the Idek It! and Tweet it! bookmarks to your URL bar to either quickly shorten or push the link directly to twitter. The Tweet It! button is one my favorite efficiency tools. I use the Tweet It! button to submit pages, from my websites, to twitter – without having to be on twitter.
Its also nice to use when you want to tweet a link from another site. Idek also works with Tweetdeck and there’s even a WordPress plugin.
The built-in tracking tells you the Total Number of Clicks, Clicks per – minute/hour/day and more than a half-dozen metrics to identify your popular links. (Or your lame links)
Are you using URL shortners effectively?

Thanks for reminding me about Idek.net, Eric. You mentioned it a while ago and now I’m reminded to check them out.
I’ve been test driving HootSuite for a few days. Pretty cool feature set.
Eric,
Thanks for the post about idek.net, I’m glad to hear that you’re still getting a lot of value out of it. If anyone else is interested in idek and has any questions, feel free to hit me up on twitter – @covati
thanks again!
